I had a very hard time selecting my favourites from Isabel Marant’s Fall 09 collection. I love it all! Very little colour, but incredibly wearable – not like many of the creatively weird and wonderful outfits that often parade across the catwalk!
I like to think of fashion as a form of self-expression, as art, as creativity manifest in lovely fabrics, tailored cuts, drapes and flows – true style that brings together shape and line and colour and texture, and splashes it across the human frame. But unfortunately, like so many areas of the creative arts, fashion has been perverted and demeaned to a symbol of status, of class or wealth or prestige, all about inflating one’s sense of superiority at the expense of another.
That’s not true style. That’s vulgarity.
