These three are going to adorn the walls of our living room, as soon as I can find inexpensive frames to set them in. Originally inspired by this and this, I found photos of the three animals online, drew a rough outline in pencil on plain brown paper and spent multiple sessions cutting up magazines, matching colours and accidentally sticking my fingers together with glue.
I wanted a new take on some old African favourites, but this project could easily be adapted to basically any kind of form – fruit, buildings, love hearts, letters, cars, countries, plants and so on. It’s a great exercise in colour theory and easily adaptable for little people. My only tip is to close your windows and leave the room if you need to sneeze. Picking up hundreds of strips of paper that have blown across the room really dampens your enthusiasm for DIY art.
