africa week: africa yoga project

This week’s posts are all a little Africa-inspired, so I’ve very creatively decided to name it Africa Week. First up: a little peek into the inspiration behind Africa Yoga Project.

I’ve been doing a yoga class with an Africa Yoga Project teacher for almost the past year. AYP train yoga teachers here in Kenya, run an amazing yoga centre in Nairobi and give back to the community with something like 300 free weekly classes in slums, prisons, orphanages, deaf schools and HIV/AIDS treatment centres.

I only recently saw this clip, which follows the yoga journey of three AYP teachers from the devastating post election violence in 07-08, through to an opportunity to extend their yoga teacher training in Tulum, Mexico. One of the teachers featured, Billy, was my first yoga teacher here and teaches a wicked yoga dance class.
